The Sacramento Bee article came out today and I was surprised to see it was on the front page – “Cancer vaccine offers hope to family”. The writer asked me my perspective on what I hoped that this article would achieve and I said a) exposure in the form of hope for brain tumor patients, that they would see that other emerging treatments were becoming available all the time that were showing promising results and b) communicating to brain tumor patients, family members and others touched by this disease that they aren’t alone. There are others going through this. Finally, I wanted the Sutter Neuroscience Institute and my medical team to receive as much recognition as possible because they have stood by me and fought every step of the way.
Well, the front page certainly provides that exposure. I have placed a few thumbnails below to larger blowups of the front page and the second page back on A7. You can read the entire article online at the Sacramento Bee’s Web Site.
I don’t have much time now but will write more later. At my next series of shots on the 21st, KCRA, the NBC affiliate here in Sacramento will be there. I think it’s great this is receiving so much press coverage.

Mark, you don’t how happy I feel for you! Tears are burning behind my eyes. I so wish you to counter this cancerous growth and to have a ‘normal’ long life. I’ll pray for you even though I’m not a religious person. Congratulations! Cranius
Thank you so much Brother – and praying for me in spite of your beliefs, that is about the most wonderful thing anyone has done for me and I mean that. Thank you!
My first two MRIs will be interesting for sure. It will be difficult to distinguish what may be effecting change since Gamma can cause edema and changes but if it moves in the other direction we’ll have a good idea. It’s the “cocktail” approach – throw a lot of different treatments at it and keep it guessing. The DCVax injections are the B2 Bomber right now.
Thanks again. I really appreciate your post here…
Mark
Can I have your autograph?
Seriously, I think the article is great. It gives hope. Enought said.

This is just so incredibly awesome, Mark.
Happy Easter and blessed be!
Mark, I can’t say enough about your willingness to be a pioneer in this fight. My little brother, mom, dad, aunt, have all been taken too soon from cancer. We know your parents, and your brother Shawn, as we live in Prescott, Arizona, and I want you to know we will be praying for you.
Blessings,
Pastor Skip and Francie Breyer
Dear Miller family,
I read the Bee article and just wanted you to know that my family will be praying for you and for good results on your next MRI! My son is also a brain tumor warrior (pineoblastoma) and I know the emotions that come with the diagnosis.
We are thinking of you,
With Hope,
Keri

I want to thank everyone reading this post for all of your prayers and words of support. I’m very happy that the article is creating exposure to this disease that is in desperate need of research funding, particulary in light of the current economic climate. There are amazingly intelligent and persistent medical professionals such as Dr. Nora Wu and Dr. Edie Zusman who are working feverishly to battle this disease every day along side many others around the world. With research funding and time, everyone believes we can one day overcome this disease.
Thanks again to everyone and to others who are here and have been dx with brain tumors or are touched by this disease, know that I pray for you.
Mark
Mark -
I hope this vaccine works wonders for you. I’m fighting my own battle with cancer now and the article about your efforts was a hopeful sign of progress. Your site is beautiful too.
Best to you and your family.

Wonderful article. Continued prayers for you and your family and God’s will for your life.

Hold fast.
Hello Mark, I am so happy to hear this news. I am the mother of a 13th year old boy that has a Thalamic Anaplastic Astrocytoma. After surgery, radiation and chemo the tumor has returned and now doctors give him no hope. They even told me he has only 3 month. His oncologist told me about the vaccine, but said they only do it in Belgium, so I am so amaize I read there is a possibility here. Do you have any words of advise for me? Thank you so much.
Yaremi,
First off, never give up hope! I was told I would likely spend my life in a wheelchair and today I walk. My advice is to keep looking and researching. Get in touch with some doctors here in the US if you can that specialize in this type of tumor (in the area it is). There are neurosurgeons that are particularly good at resecting tumors in eloquent areas or specific areas of the brain. I don’t know a lot about your situation but stand tall and do not give up. Giving up is letting this defeat you. Do everything you can but most of all, have faith and don’t give up.
